There are no theme options

I can’t see any of the theme options anymore. When I click “Theme options” that tab is empty.

This will likely happen after you must have made changes to theme files and in the process deleted or edited “Manifest.json” file, an essential file for theme options. To check if you deleted the file:

  • Click Theme, click EDIT HTML/CSS.
  • On the left scroll down to “ASSETS”, scroll down through files under ASSETS to see if you can find a file named “Manifest.json”.

If you can find the file, it means you haven’t deleted but must have edited it and did something wrong in the process. In this case, you need to reverse what you did (if you still remember). If you can’t remember or you’re not sure what you did, use any of the two solutions below to resolve the issue.

If you can’t find the file, it means you must have deleted it. In this way, you need to re-upload that file or re-install the theme.

Option 1: Re-upload the file

For either of above scenarios, you can resolve the problem by re-uploading the “manifest.json” file. To do this:

  • Locate the folder on your PC that you saved the theme you downloaded from us.
  • Right-click on the actual theme file and copy it (the way you copy any file on your computer). Remember, the actual theme file is the one you uploaded to weebly to install.
  • Make a new folder anywhere on your computer, paste the theme zip file you copied.
  • Right-click and unzip the theme file you just pasted. You will see lots of files, one of them is named “manifest.json“.
  • On your weebly website editor, click Theme > click EDIT HTML/CSS.
  • Scroll down to ASSETS, click the plus (+) icon on the right of ASSETS and click “Upload File(s)”.
  • Locate the folder with the theme you just unzipped, select and upload “manifest.json” from there. Wait for the file to upload.
  • After upload, click SAVE on the top right corner, wait for changes to save.
  • Reload your editor and check theme options again.

If successfully uploaded, theme options should appear. If you did everything correctly and still can’t see: exit the editor, then go back into editor and check theme options again.

Option 2: Re-install theme

Another solution is to re-install the theme. Re-installing the theme means installing a fresh copy of the theme.

The problem with this option is that if you made some changes to theme files and perhaps the code, or maybe you pasted some codes (example widgets code, plugins codes, etc.) into theme files, installing a fresh copy of the theme will not have those codes, files or changes you must have made.

In this case, option 1 above is advisable.

If you wish to re-install the theme, follow instructions as you did the first time you installed the theme. See how to install weebly theme.

Before uploading the theme to weebly, you must change the name of the theme because you already have a theme with that name installed.

If for example your theme is named “Focus_v1_4” or “Chiropractor_v1_0”, you can simply add another number to it or alphabet to it, so that it becomes “Focus_v1_4_2” or “Focus_v1_4A” and the same for “Chiropractor_v1_0_2” or “Chiropractor_v1_0A”.

The point is, make sure that theme name is different from one you currently have installed before uploading it.

If you followed any of the above solutions correctly, you should be able to see theme options again.
